3rd CLEAREST WATER IN THE WORLD

HIKING & SNORKELLING THROUGH THE JUNGLE

After a trek through the rainforest, you will snorkel 3 km downstream along Rio Olha d’Agua where the water is crystal clear and visibility is great to admire its 55 species of fish, such as the yellow-finned Piraputanga and the little, bright-red Mato Grosso fish. The river has a great amount of underground limestone, which filters the water and makes it clear. Next, you will snorkel in Rio da Prata, a little foggier but still great and there are lots of big fish, like the (black, round) pacu and the golden dorado. Both are pretty impressive.

The snorkelling starts with a training session where you can already see a lot of different fish. You will then continue hours of snorkelling peacefully downstream, with one exciting rapid along the way; very fun and everyone could manage this easily.

A SAFARI UNDER & ABOVE WATER

You will come along a great variety of beautiful sites; different springs where the sand dances on the bottom of the river, different depths and colours of the water, different aquatic plants and different sceneries above water too. Don’t forget to look above the surface too, as we got to see lots of monkeys, their babies and birds from up close. In the Recanto Ecologico Rio da Prata there are 200 species of birds recorded.

Besides birds, we were lucky to see a big caiman half inside the water and our brilliant tour guide Vladimir Martins showed us a crayfish and a crab from under a stone.

FISH ATTRACTION

Vladimir taught us how to attract the little, bright red Mato Grosso fish; snap your fingers under water and the vibration will attract the fish to swim up to the ‘sound’! It’s not only great to see the fish from up close, but the colours are also stronger the closer they get to the surface.

Besides watching all the attractive fish, it’s great to see the bright sun above you and the shadows of tree leaves and of people on the bright, sandy bottom below you.

LONG TOUR ENDS WITH EXCELLENT REFUELLING

Four hours after departure you arrive back at the farm where you can enjoy an excellent organic lunch in the beautiful garden accompanied by parakeets. Don’t forget to try the marvellous home-made doce de leite (caramelised milk), which is also for sale in their store.

We were super satisfied about this tour!

TIPS

As you cannot wear sunscreen in the precious clear water and the wetsuit pants are short, you might want to wear leggings underneath to avoid sunburn, especially here at Rio da Prata as you spend a long time snorkelling.
