4×4 WITH THE PROS
At Beach Hop we already noticed that Chris is a great car lover and mechanic. Since he is also the head of a 4×4 club and competes in 4×4 rally’s together with his brother, he invited us to experience a week ‘in the life of Chris’; four-wheel driving, rallying, racing and the best bacon and eggs ever.
As we had a car mechanic on board, we didn’t mind risking the muddy wobbly road to the Jurassic Park like jungle of Karakariki. Here we parked next to the shed called ‘Sheraton’; the base camp of the 4×4 club.
ROUGH MEN WITH GOLDEN HEARTS
It was impressive watching all the 4×4 beasts arrive. Rough men with golden hearts took us on their thrill rides. This was the real thing; true 4×4 driving in a stunningly wild jungle. Super cool they even let us drive their expensive trucks on very advanced tracks.
BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS OF LAUGHTER
Leonie got some adrenaline kicks as she tumbled twice as a passenger of two different trucks. This gives an idea of how hardcore it was. No fears though, just laughs, fun pictures and a lot of dirt.
At some of the steep slopes, trucks broke down and had to get fixed on the spot. Trees got run over, mud seemed to have lost its gravity and trucks continuously had to help each other to battle numerous challenges.
TIME TO REFRESH
After a bath in the cold river we had a BBQ under the stars. The men took care of the meat and we served our gastronomic invention presented on our silver plate; hot, crispy-brown marshmallows filled with Grand Marnier, yum!
Chris assumed that one day of adventure would be enough, but after his famous breakfast he was pleasantly surprised that we asked for another day of action.
